Paving Fabrics

Fabrics serve a variety of purposes in Asphalt Pavement construction and rehibilitation. Fabrics are divided into two main groups; Woven and Non-Woven.

Woven Fabrics are used to separate the stone and subgrade, and reinforces the subgrade by forcing weight to be dispersed over a larger area.

Nonwoven Fabrics generally take on a different role than woven fabrics. Nonwoven fabrics are used to stop both moisture and cracks from coming through an asphalt overlay. This is achieved by placing it between the old asphalt and the new overlay. A leading type of nonwoven fabric is Petromat® .
